What Are They?

Aesthetic surgery is the best option for certain aging changes.  Many other aesthetic issues are best treated with non-surgical options.  Most of these treatments address separate classes of aging changes that are not well addressed by surgery and form a crucial part of the care plan for almost all patients at every stage of aging.  Best of all, most require little to no time away from your busy life. When performed by a seasoned professional, micro invasive corrections can slow signs of aging and address details that aesthetic plastic surgery cannot.

Neuromodulators

Neuromodulators are injectable medicines that help reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles. Neuromodulators are FDA-approved and safe to use. Currently available alternatives include Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, Jeuveau and Daxxify. In the hands of a skilled practitioner, neuromodulators yield subtle, natural results for three to six months or longer in some cases.

Neuromodulators work by temporarily relaxing muscles by blocking the signal from the nerves to the muscles in the area of treatment.  Neuromodulators are designed to correct dynamic wrinkles, which are those caused by repeated motion like the 'elevens,' forehead creases, and laugh lines. Patients can return to their regularly scheduled activities right after a treatment.

Injectable Fillers

Fillers are FDA-approved materials that are injected into or beneath the skin's surface to correct fixed wrinkles and fine lines, add volume to the face, and aid in chin, lip, cheek, and jawline augmentation.  Judicious use of fillers works to address many of the visible manifestations of early facial aging and features which are not corrected by facelifting. Multiple FDA-approved injectable fillers are available, and each has a unique set of physical characteristics.

An experienced aesthetic physician can best determine which filler is appropriate for each patient's needs.  Results with fillers are highly dependent on the technical skill and artistry of the person injecting.  A seasoned plastic surgeon with decades of filler experience works to your benefit in obtaining gratifying, natural enhancements.  Popular injectable fillers include the Restylane, Juvederm and RHA families of products, Belotero, Radiesse, and Sculptra.

PRP

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) improves the quality and texture of the skin by stimulating the body's own cellular healing responses. A small amount of the patient's blood is drawn and then placed into a centrifuge, which separates the plasma from the platelets. Then the platelet-rich plasma is either injected into areas on the face or applied topically after microneedling.

Tixel treatments are also used to provide the channels necessary to allow entry of the PRP into the skin.  PRP stimulates collagen growth and other skin remodeling changes, which is important since collagen production drops as people age. Low collagen results in skin laxity and fine lines. PRP is also helpful for treating irregular pigmentation, stretch marks, and scars. The volume and tone of facial skin often  improves with PRP treatments as well.

What Is Recovery Like?

Neuromodulators and injectable fillers have little, if any, recovery time. Though there might be bruising, swelling, or redness, patients typically resume work and social activities right after a treatment.

Recovery from PRP varies based on the extent of the treatment. In some cases, patients can resume normal activity in twenty-four hours. In others, two to three days are necessary to fully recover. Redness and signs of mild irritation are the most common side effects, and they fade quickly.

Results After Rejuvenation

Within a few weeks, patients who undergo PRP notice softer, firmer, more luminous skin. Sun spots, age spots, or other hyperpigmented blemishes will fade. Patients who receive neuromodulators or injectable fillers will see a marked reduction in dynamic wrinkles and creases of the face and, in the case of some injectable fillers, will experience a regrowth of collagen.
